Never talk to the police!

January 24, 2016 / Sally Dee / Arrests, Law Enforcement, Police, Search and Seizure

Think just because you are innocent you have nothing to lose by talking to the police? Wrong! Great video by a law school professor and former criminal defense attorney who tells you why you should never agree to be interviewed by the police.

1. Contrary to what most people think, it cannot help you in any way to talk to the police. It will not keep you from being arrested. What you tell the police cannot be used to exculpate you. Like the familiar “can and will be used against you” – in other words, while what you tell the police can be used to prosecute you and find you guilty, it can never be used to help acquit you.

2. If your client is guilty, and even if he is innocent, he may admit his guilt with no benefit in return. There is no rush to admit anything to the authorities, and it will not benefit you to do so. Don’t believe the “it will go easier on you if you tell us the truth now!” trope from teevee shows.

Watch the video for 6 more good reasons not to talk to the police.
